Tough Soccer Game on 10/5/07

Although it had rained earlier in the day, the weather was great for the 5:00pm game against Greenville Homeschool. The location was picture perfect too. It was the first time we had been to Herdklotz Park off Beverly Road in Greenville and my 6-year-old son was as impressed with the playground as I was with the soccer field. Our guys played well, but with seven seniors on the Greenville Homeschool team, they simply outplayed us. The final score was Greenville Homeschool 2 -GCA 0.

Results of Soccer Game on 9/28

On a warm, sunny Friday afternoon, the GCA Lions played against the Easley Homeschool Guardians on their home field on Red Owens Park. The game went scoreless for most of the 1st half and then Jordan scored with a brilliant shot from the corner of the 18 yard box right over the head of the goalkeeper. In the second half, Seth scored on a breakaway after a great punt by Chad. A 3rd goal was scored by Jamison with an assist from Brandon after a furious onslaught of offensive power. Brandon scored a 4th goal with a drive down the outside on the right. Mark scored the next two goals. The first was on a header with an assist from Brandon on a free kick from the right side line. The last goal was scored after a long continuation of a corner kick. Final score: Lions 6 - Guardians 0.

After the game some of the team members and their families ate together at Zaxby's to celebrate Brandon's 16th birthday. Happy Birthday, Brandon!

Nailbiting Ladies Volleyball Match on 9/27/07

Our GCA ladies came together for a great set of games today against Oakbrook Prep. The first game was neck and neck with the Knights pulling out a 25-20 win. The second game also went back and forth and contained the longest group of rallies yet. We pulled out several successes due to the girls' great digging and consistent but brutal serves. We experienced our first bunch of aces against a tough opponent. For the first time the GCA ladies won a game 25-23. The last game once again was neck and neck. The awesome GCA ladies lost the final game 15-12. However, the part of the match that I was most proud of was the ladies great attitudes all throughout the game and their desire to pray before the last game that God would get the glory. Our last huddle ended with a final shout from all the girls, "All to the glory of God! Amen!"

Results of the Volleyball Game on 9/20/07

The GCA girls came out strong in the game against St. Mary. Immediately they started out with a 6-2 lead. Slowly, after a time out, St. Mary came back to tie the score. We maintained the lead for most of the game. In the end, we lost with a score of 25-21. In the second game, with two powerhouse services and despite a few challenging rallies from the Lions, we were defeated 9-25. Though the second game was a struggle, the overall match was a nail biter! After the game, the St. Mary's coaches commented on thoroughly enjoying the game and praised our girls for an impressive showing for a first year team. Go Lions!

GCA Girls Volleyball

The hard working GCA ladies are preparing for their third game this Thursday at 4:30 against St. Mary's Catholic. So far they have faced two tough teams and are hoping this next game will produce their first win. Most of the ladies are playing on a team for the first time. Others have a few years of experience on town league teams. Our team captain, Margaret, is a helpful and communicative leader. She and Anna are the team's designated setters. The rest of the girls alternate as diggers and attackers. Our team's primary goal is to communicate to the glory of God on and off the court. Our secondary goals include the following phrases...Serve is the first chance to attack! Second hit is always to the setter! Third hit is always overhand! No ball is ungettable!
