Lady Lions vs. UHC Hurricanes

The Lady Lions were defeated this afternoon by the UHC Hurricanes by a score of 14-54. Kilian was our leading scorer with 12 points which included two three-pointers. Jessica D. rounded out the scoring with a field goal.

JV Boys Basketball Game

On Monday, December 1st, the JV Boys lost to the Upstate Eagles in the 3rd home game of the season with a score of 31 - 50. Ivan was high scorer with 15 points and Ryan was right behind him with 14 points

The Lady Lions faced the Upstate Eagles at home Monday, December 1. They lost the game 15-34. After being scoreless in the first half, four of our players put points on the board in the second half. Kilian led the scoring with 8 points. Amanda scored on a 3-pointer. Jessica D. and Randi both added a field goal. Our next game is Monday, December 8 at 4:00 at home against the Hurricanes.

The Lions fell to Easley Home Educators in a home game on Monday, November 24th with a final score of Lions 29 EHE 38. Ivan was high scorer with 11 points 9 of which were scored in the 4th quarter.

On Monday, November 24, the Lady Lions faced the Easley Home Educators. After only trailing by 4 at the end of the first quarter, the Lions started losing ground. The final score was 15-40. Kilian scored all 15 of our points with six field goals and one 3-pointer.

Result of Varsity Boys Soccer Game on 5/1/08

In the last game of the season, the GCA Varsity Boys Soccer Game lost to Christ Church 1 - 4. Cameron scored for GCA in the 2nd half.

Varsity Wins in Overtime

On Tuesday, April 29th, the GCA Boys Soccer Team faced Broome in Spartanburg. At their last matchup against GCA at Pittman Park, Broome won in Sudden Death.

The game was scheduled to start at 6:00pm, but started a little late because it was Senior Night at Broome with all the senior soccer players presenting long-stem roses to their mothers on the field before the game.

The score was 0 - 0 at the end of the 1st half and 1 - 1 at the end of the 2nd half. Brandon scored a goal for GCA in overtime for a final score of GCA 2 - Broome 1.

The GCA JV Girls Soccer team played their last game of the season on Tuesday, April 29th at Broome High in Spartanburg. The final score was GCA 3 - Broome 0 with Rosie scoring all 3 goals for GCA.

Results of Boys Soccer Game Against Berea

Both GCA boys soccer teams lost in tough games to Berea on Tuesday, April 28th. The JV Boys played first at 5:00pm with a final score of GCA 2 - Berea 4. Brandon and Austin scored for GCA in the second half.

In the Varsity game, the final score was GCA 1 - Berea 7 with Jordan scoring the only goal for GCA.

On Friday, April 25th, the JV Boys faced West Oak in Westminster. The final score was 3 - 0 with Blake, Vincent and Nate scoring for GCA.

Girls Win again aginst Oakbrook

On Friday, April 25th, he GCA Girls soccer team faced Oakbrook Prep for the second time this season just a week after the first match. In the 1st half, Rosie scored 1 goal and Ashley was the goalkeekper. In the 2nd half, Lowri was the goalie and Elissa scored a goal for GCA for a final score of GCA 2 - Oakbrook 0.

Mixed Results for Soccer Games on 4-22-08

There were mixed results for the JV Soccer games against Chapman on Tuesday, April 22nd. The girls played first and won 2 - 1. Rosie scored both goals for GCA in the last 10 minutes of the game.

The boys played next and lost. The score was GCA 2 - Chapman 1 at the half with Taylor scoring both of the goals for GCA. Chapman scored 2 more in the second half for a final score of GCA 2 - Chapman 3.

GCA lost both of the make-up games against Southside Christian School on Monday, April 21st. The JV Boys played first at 5:30pm and lost 1 - 4. Scoring for GCA in the second half was Jamison. The Varsity Boys followed at 7:00pm and lost 1 - 4. Noah scored for GCA in the first half.

In a home game on Thursday, April 17th, the GCA JV Boys won 3 - 1 against West Oak. Scoring for GCA were Jordan, Jamison and Andrew.

Girls Soccer Team Wins against Oakbrook

In their only home game of the year on April 17th, the GCA Girls soccer team won against Oakbrook Prep's Middle School Girls Soccer Team. Rosie and Sally each scored a goal in the first half. The final score was GCA 2 - Oakbrook 0.

In the second meeting with Westgate this year, the GCA girls soccer team tied the Westgate Varsity Girls 1 - 1. Both goals were scored in the first half with Rosie scoring for GCA right before the half time whistle was blown

Boys Varsity Wins Against Westside

In a home game at Pittman Park on Monday, April 14th, the GCA Varsity Boys won against Westside High from Anderson 5 - 0. The temperatures were cold, but at least it stopped raining for the game.

Results of Triple Header against Southside Christian

GCA lost all three games in a triple header against Southside Christian on Friday, April 11th.

The JV Girls played first at 4:00pm. The final score was 0 - 2 with SCS scoring both goals in the first half.

The JV Boys played next. SCS scored 4 in the first half. Jamison scored one for GCA in the 2nd half, and SCS scored 2 more for a final score of GCA 1 - SCS 6.

In the last game of the night starting at 7:00pm. the Varsity Boys lost 0 - 5.

Varsity Boys Lose in Sudden Death

In a home game at Pittman Park, the Varsity boys soccer team battled Broome in a very physical game. Colby scored 2 goals in the first half. In the second half Broome scored 2. After two 5-minutes overtimes, the score was still tied 2 -2. In a shootout, each team made 3 out of 5 goal kicks. In Sudden Death, the Broome player scored a goal. The GCA player got up, and the Broome goalie was able to stop the kick giving Broome the win.

JV Boys Soccer Team Wins Against Chapman

Following the girls soccer game, the GCA JV Boys Soccer Team faced Chapman at 6:30pm on Tuesday, March 25th. The Chapman JV team is made up of 9th and 10th graders from Chapman and 7th and 8th graders from Mabry Jr. High. They play their soccer games in the football stadium at Mabry which was formally used by Chapman before they got their new building.

In the first half Andrew scored 3 goals and Jamison scored 1 for a half-time score of GCA 4 - Chapman 0. In the second half, goals were scored by Blake and Vincent. Chapman also scored 1 for a final score of GCA 6 - Chapman 1.

The girls soccer team won on Tuesday, March 25th against Chapman in Inman. In the first half, Rosie took the corner kick and Anna headed it in beautifully. Chapman got a penalty kick to tie it 1 - 1. In the 2nd half, Bekah scored a goal for GCA for a final score of GCA 2 - Chapman 1.

Boys win in Anderson

The Varsity Boys Soccer Team won with a score of 5 - 1. Colby scored 4 goals with assists from Andrew and David scored 1 goal - all in the first half. Westside scored 1 in the second half for final score of GCA 5 - Westside 1.

After the game most of the team went out to eat together at Fuddruckers.

Girls Win against Oakwood

The Girls Soccer Team won against Oakwood Christian on Thursday, March 20th in Anderson. Rosie scored early in the first half. The second goal was scored by Elissa with an assist by Bekah. Ella scored the third goal with an assist from her sister Raelyn. In the second half goals were scored by Kelsey and Anna. Oakwood scored near the end of the game for a final score of GCA 5 - Oakwood 1.

Result of Girls Soccer Game on 3/18/08

Playing against a backdrop of Bradford Pear trees in bloom, the GCA Girls Soccer Team lost in a close game to Westgate Christian in Spartanburg on Tuesday, March 18th. At the half the score was GCA 1 - Westgate 0 with Elissa scoring the goal for GCA. Westgate came back and scored two more in the 2nd half for a final score of GCA 1 - Westgate 2. Ashley did a great job as goalie for the entire game blocking at least 10 shots on goal (There were so many I lost count.)

The King & I

Last night I went to see The King & I performed at the Greer Children's Theater because several of the girls on the GCA soccer team were members of the cast or in the orchestra. Congratulations for a job well done to Meredith, Tessa, Raelyn, Ella, April and Rosie. Other girls from the soccer team that were in the audience included Ashley, Bekah, Rosalyn, and Sally. Everyone in The King & I did such a fantastic job and I enjoyed the performance immensely.

Girls 1st Soccer Game of the Season

After two games that were canceled because of rain, the girl played their first soccer game of the 2008 season on Thursday, March 13th against Mitchell Road Christian Academy. MRCA scored after about a minute after the game started and scored 3 more in the first half. They scored one for in the second half for a final score of GCA 0 MRCA 5.

For the 2nd time this week, soccer games have been canceled due to rain. The boys' games against Southside Christian has been rescheduled for Monday, April 21 at 5:30 and 7:00pm. The girls game will be rescheduled at at future date.

The Coach from Greer High School called and canceled the Varsity Boys Soccer Scrimmage scheduled for today at 6:00pm because he said their soccer goals were stolen last weekend, and they've not been able to secure goals to replace them. They are going to try to reschedule the scrimmage for a future date.

JV Boys Win the Last Game of the Season

The JV Boys Basketball won the last game of the season against Brashier on Saturday, February 9th. The game was supposed to start at 6:00pm, but it started about 45 minutes late because the refs weren't there. It was a close game with the score tied at 22-22 at the half. In the end the Lions won 53 - 46. Isaac led the scoring with 29 points, followed by Seth with 11 points.

The JV Boys Basketball team beat Southside Christian in an away game on Tuesday, February 5th. The final score was 41 - 27. Leading the scoring was Seth with 12 points followed by Ivan with 11 points and Isaac with 10 points.

JV Boys Add Another Win

The JV Boys battled Calvary Christian in a home game on Tuesday evening. It was a close and well-fought game. In the end the Lions won 55 - 54. Seth and Isaac tied for high scorer each with 14 points, followed closely by Cameron with 13 points and Tanner with 12 points. Congratulations on a good game boys!

Middle School Girls Finish the Season

On Tuesday, January 29, the Middle School Girls traveled to Mount Zion Christian School for the last game of the season. They played an excellent game scoring 24 points which was only two points off of their season high. Even with all that, they lost 24-38. Jessica C. and Rebecca tied for high score with 12 points each. Rebecca also gave us a thrill by scoring the first 3-pointer of our season.

JV Boys Fall by 1 Point

In a close well-fought game, the JV Boys Basketball team fell to Greenville Home School on Friday, January 25th with a final score of 36 - 35. This is the second time in one week that the JV boys lost by 1 point. Leading the scoring for the Lions was Seth with 12 points.

Middle School Boys Win against Greenville Home School

In a Friday afternoon game in downtown Greenville at Second Presbyterian Church, the GCA Middle School Boys Basketball team won against Greenville Home School with a score of 29 - 13. Stephen led the scoring with 10 points.

There will be soccer training for all three soccer teams (Boys JV, Boys Varsity and Girls JV) on Saturday, 1/26/08 from 1:00 - 2:30pm at Pittman Park. Players should bring cleats, shin guards, a soccer ball, and a water bottle. Running shoes are optional.

JV Boys lose by 1 point

Following games by the Middle School Girls and Middle School Boys, the JV Boys basketball team faced the Upstate Eagles. It was a close game throughout with the Lions ahead 12 - 8 at the half and 20 - 12 at the end of the third quarter. The Eagles turned up the steam in the last quarter and pulled ahead 22 - 24 with a little over 3 minutes left in the game. The Eagles played very defensively in order to hold on to their lead. The Lions were able to score 1 out of 2 free throws due to a technical foul to make the final score 23 - 24. The high scorer was Cameron with 10 points.

Middle School Boys Lose to Christ Church


The Middle School Boys team faced Christ Church in a home game on Tuesday, January 22nd. The Lions were missing Stephen who had braces put on earlier in the day. Christ Church led the entire game with a final score of 20 - 56. High scorer was Aaron with 15 points.

Middle School Girls Come Up Short

On Tuesday, January 22, the Middle School Girls basketball team went up against Christ Church the second time this season. After leading by one at the end of the first quarter, they were overwhelmed by sheer numbers--Christ Church had 15 players on their roster--and worn down by the constant pressure defense. Despite the long odds, our girls never gave up in their 9-34 defeat. Rebecca was our only scorer, putting in 4 field goals and 1 free throw.
Our next game is Tuesday, January 29, at 4:00 at Mount Zion in Greenville. Come out and support our girls as they play their final game of the season on the road.

Friday, January 18, the Middle School Girls traveled to Easley to do battle with the Easley Homeschool team. Our girls struggled to put points on the board. Rebecca and Randi each made a field goal to make the final score 4-31.

Middle School Girls Lose to Christ Church

On Monday, January 14, the Middle School Girls basketball team traveled to Christ Church and lost 15-25. The girls had to battle against full court pressure for half of the game. That and the very long Christ Church bench really wore our young team down. Rebecca was high scorer with 9 points. Jessica C., Randi, and Carson each added 2 points.
The girls play their next game against Easley Home School on Friday, January 18, at 4:45 in Easley.

JV Boys Win 47 - 41 on Friday Night

On Friday Night, January 11th, the JV Boys won a close game against Calvary Christian. The lead went back and forth throughout the game with Calvary ahead at the half time 23 - 21 and at the end of the third quarter 34 - 32. The GCA Lions came through in the 4th quarter scoring 15 points to take the win with a final score of 47 - 41. High scorer was Cameron with 16 points followed by Isaac with 15 points.

Middle School Girls Battle Calvary Christian Varsity

The Middle School Girls played against a much older and bigger Calvary Christian varsity team, losing 19-35. Rebecca was the leading scorer with 11 points. Jessica C. had 6 points, all in the second quarter. Carson rounded out the scoring with one field goal.
An added highlight of the game was the half-court shooting contest during half time. Mr. Downing, the coach's husband, was the winner and came away with a two liter bottle of Sierra Mist as his prize.

In the first game of the new year, the middle school boys basketball team won 43 - 17 against Siloam Christian on January 3rd. Anthony was top scorer with 12 points. Following Anthony was Chad and Micah both with 10 points.
